Our Story

In July of 2005, Matt was approached by two young men, looking to sell their small flooring business to pursue other opportunities. After much consideration, Matt and Micaela worked out a deal to not only buy the equipment, but their catchy name too!

In 2007, Matt attended his first class at the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). He had such an amazing experience meeting and learning from professionals in the industry! It opened his eyes to what this small business could someday be. It was then that he and Micaela decided to close their remodeling company so Matt could commit to running Luminous Flooring full time.

In 2015, Matt hired his neighbor Dave. He had no flooring experience whatsoever. As Dave was still learning and trying to stay busy, he would clean up the job sites. Matt started to notice that our customers were not only complimenting the work, but also how clean the job site was. At times they seemed to be more excited about that than the flooring. The reaction from these customers not only helped us form our identity but the word of mouth advertising helped the business grow.

We started to slowly grow our staff. In 2017, we moved into our current shop space and bought our first van. In the spring of 2018, Matt’s son Jake (26) decided to come on as an installer. He has unfortunately since moved on to pursue other opportunities but helped us build the team we have today. In 2019, Micaela quit her full time job as a hair stylist to help Matt manage the office. Matt and Micaela’s daughter, Grace(21), has been involved in the business since she was young but came on full time in 2021 after graduating highschool. She is now the friendly voice you hear when you call the office. Matt and Micaela’s son, Mason(16), also comes into help on days off school or during the summertime. Grace’s fiance, Chandler, has even taken over as our lead installer. Luminous has truly become a family business!

Today we have upwards of 20 employees and have a fleet of 12 vans. We have 8 NWFA certified staff members and our company is Bona Certified. We have expanded to occupy three rental spaces, our most recently acquired space houses our new offices and showroom. We have continued to expand on the basic values that set us apart, going above and beyond everyday to make sure our customers are happy, not only with our work but our amazing customer service.

We had to replace our cast iron pipes under the basement floor which meant our flooring (LVP) had to be replaced. Their flooring crew had to remove what old flooring was left, sand replaced concrete to smooth out floors and work around all the furniture and stuff in the basement. They did a great job! They were very professional and courteous! Matt Lukens
Owner

NWFA Certified in Installation & Sand and Finish

I absolutely love my job! I have owned and operated Luminous Flooring now for over 21 years. For the first 6 to 7 years I ran Luminous on my own. My business started to grow once I became certified through the National Wood Flooring Association in both Installation and Sand and Refinish of hardwood flooring. Over the years, quality workmanship, honesty, and integrity have helped me to grow from a one-man operation to the team I lead today. My team of people is outstanding!
When I’m not involved with Luminous, I am busy with my family. I’ve been married for over 20 years to my wife Micaela. She joined the Luminous team in September 2019. Together we have 3 children Jake(28), Grace(23), and Mason(18). They are amazing and I enjoy every aspect of being their father! Throughout the years I have loved nothing more than attending their many sporting events, although those days are dwindling. I am still their number one fan! In my free time, I adore being on the lake. I spend as much time as possible fishing with my boys and boating with my family.

Micaela Lukens

Over 20 years ago, when Matt began the adventure of Luminous Flooring, I had no idea just how much I would become part of it. For many years, I was simply the support team, a good listener, advice-giving devil’s advocate, and always his wife and partner. My full-time career and passion for over 18 years was as a hairstylist. Over these years Luminous grew as did our family. To my surprise in 2018, I found myself considering and eventually deciding to shift my career, goals, and future towards Luminous Flooring. I began working part-time alongside Matt at Luminous while still working Wednesdays in the salon. In the Fall of 2020 I took a leap and became a full time member of Luminous! While I certainly miss the many wonderful cherished clients and co-workers I had at the salon for so many years and the art I created daily, I LOVE being a full-time part of Luminous! It has been amazing to work with my family, have a flexible schedule for our kids and we have been beyond blessed with the wonderful team of people we have. There have been many new challenges and creative opportunities that have given me a whole new life experience. I look forward to learning, growing, and building Luminous as well as myself in the many years to come! When I am not working, I absolutely love any opportunity to spend time with my cherished family and friends. Being outdoors, especially on the water is my favorite getaway!

NWFA Emerging Leaders Council Member 2025/2026 Hardwood Floors Magazine 40 Under 40 Recipient

I have been involved in the background operations of Luminous since I was a young girl! At age 15 I started to pick up phones and help out around the office whenever I was available. Over time my responsibilities have grown and I now manage all office operations. I love my job!! Being able to work with your family and learn from them is amazing. I am so thankful that I get to do that every day! I am so proud of Luminous and what my family has built together that I just can't see myself doing anything else! After graduating high school I came on as a full time employee while attending Jefferson College. I graduated in 2023 with a business management degree. In early 2025 I joined the NWFA Emerging Leaders Council & was recognized as a 40 under 40 recipient. In the summer of 2025 I married my amazing husband, Chandler. We have worked together throughout our entire relationship which has only brought us closer. We recently welcomed our first son, Jackson, to the world! He is the light of our life and we love navigating parenthood with him. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family on the lake, crocheting, reading & doing yoga.

I’m happily married with 2 beautiful daughters and a pup. We love spending time in the woods camping and going on float trips. I’ve been in the flooring business for 24 years, the last 14 years primarily hardwood. I earned my NWFA Certification in Sand and Finish about 8 years ago and continue to learn something new all the time. I love the hardwood flooring business for its limitless options and opportunities. No two floors are the same and the industry just keeps growing!

Mason Lukens

I’ve been helping my dad at job sites and with pretty much anything I could since I was about nine and could swing a hammer! I am currently 18 and am going to Maryville this year but work full time during the summer and part time during the school year as Operations Manager! In my free time I enjoy fishing, hunting, and pretty much anything outdoors. I also spend a lot of my time in the gym after work and spend a lot of time with my friends and family.

I’m 55 years old and I’ve been in the hardwood flooring industry for 23 years now. I have some installation experience but I prefer sand and refinishing. I joined the Luminous Flooring family in November of 2022, and I love this company! I’m a father of 6 and a grandfather to 10! I love to spend as much time with my family as I can. My dream career would be to get paid to fish! In my garden and around my plants is the one place I feel like I can really unload any negativity and find my happy place.

I’m 26 and I’ve been working for Luminous for around 6 years. I am NWFA Certified in Sand & Finish. This trade is something I am extremely passionate about! While the work may seem tedious and difficult at times, the end result makes it worth the while! Outside of work I enjoy writing and doing anything creative and spending time with family and friends. I think my creativity helps me in my work.

I am 24 years old and have been working at Luminous Flooring for over 5 years now! My beautiful wife, Grace, got me this job when we first started dating. I had no prior knowledge or experience but over the past few years I have learned so much! I handle specialty installation work such as repairs and patterned installs. In between projects I also try to make connections with new contractors to help expand the business. I am NWFA Certified in Installation and plan to attend Advanced Installation in the fall. I enjoy what I do because I love challenges and the satisfaction that comes when your hard work pays off. I pride myself in taking great attention to detail. I just recently became a dad and I enjoy every second of watching my son grow! In my free time I enjoy working on projects around my house and spending time with family.

My name is Ray Smith. I am 25 years old, and have been doing flooring for 10 years! I’ve been with Luminous Flooring since October of 2022, and cannot wait to continue to grow and improve within this company! I’m never not busy! Even in my free time I like to get my hands dirty and do projects around my home, from floors, to backsplash. I take a lot of pride in the quality of work I produce and I will push my team to make sure we meet every expectation!

David Callaway

My name is David Callaway, although most people know me as DJ. I’ve been doing hardwood flooring for about 4 years, but I have been working on homes in some sense for about 6 years. As a lead I take a lot of pride in learning from every task given to me. I want to make sure that your project is a positive, smooth experience! In my free time, my girlfriend, Maddie and I love traveling and seeing different parts of the world. We are currently learning Italian before taking a trip there. Arrivederci!

Jordan Griffith

Hi my name is Jordan and I am 25 years old. I have been working at Luminous for over a year now and I am really enjoying the work! I started as an entry level installer and have quickly gained skill. I now run my own jobsites! I was a diesel technician prior to coming to Luminous. I enjoy spending time outdoors fishing, hiking, camping, and riding off-road vehicles. I love spending time with my family, and also enjoy working on cars and trucks. I like to take pride in my hard work. I believe there should be no other way. I am looking forward to continuing to work and build with Luminous and provide quality work to all of our customers!

Alex Smick

My name is Alex Smick and I am 25 years old. I have been working at Luminous Flooring for about 3 years off and on. I have briefly left to pursue other opportunities but I seem to keep finding my way back! I have experience in both Installation and Sand and Finish but I currently do mostly installations. In my free time I enjoy working on cars and motorcycles. I also enjoy writing music. I play bass for a local band, Southside 5.

I am 24 years old and have been working at Luminous Flooring for over a year. I have learned so much in that time! I love spending time with my 2 year old daughter and my fiance. I also enjoy spending time outside, playing games with friends, watching movies, and collecting Pokemon cards.

Maddie Sprock

My name is Madison but I go by Maddie. I am 21 years old! I just started with Luminous, but I have been in customer service since 15. I'm an animal and nature lover. In my free time I paint and enjoy good music. A proud big sister to all boys. Striving to be a good influence and a hard worker everyday. My boyfriend, DJ and I have been together for almost three years, we are learning Italian and we have two cats and a dog.

Hunter Sauser

Hi my name is Hunter Sauser and I have been in the hardwood flooring industry for about 6 years now. Two years of that time I have spent with Luminous Flooring. I really enjoy my job, I have learned so much since I started here! In my free time I enjoy doing hands-on projects, as well as fishing and spending time with family and friends. I can't wait to see how far I can go within this company!

Shane Chapman

I am 23 years old and I have been working at Luminous Flooring for over two years now! I started on the Sand and Finish crew, but I now do mostly installation. My experience with both crews allows me to help out on almost any jobsite. I grew up around some of the guys working here so it’s great to see how far we’ve all progressed and all our achievements to come! I love the outdoors, cars, fishing and spending time with family and friends!

I am 27 and have been working at Luminous Flooring for over 4 years. For the first couple of years I worked primarily on the sand and finish team. About two years ago I took over as the delivery driver. I also do some demo work and help out with things around our shop. In my free time, I like to play video games, read comics, and build model kits!

I'm Jesse, I'm 27 years young. I've been doing floors for over 9 years. People say when you love what you do, you don't work a day in your life. I have a loving wife, 3 kids and a dog. My family is my world. I named my dog after my favorite movie saga, “Rocky.” I love football, Real Wrestling, and a campfire with my folks. My goal on every jobsite is to make sure we meet any customer need with professionalism and care.

My name is Riley and I am 19 years old. I haven’t been working at Luminous Flooring for very long but so far I have learned a lot! In my free time I enjoy doing pretty much anything outdoors. My family and I like tubing, fishing, swimming, and taking out our side by side!

I'm 24 years old, I've been doing flooring for three months. I'm from Barnhart but moved to Dittmer. I enjoy fishing, boxing, and hopping on the game. I have 1 dog named Diamond. A fun fact about me is my friends call me HappyMeal. At my jobsite I want to make the homeowner smile and to feel completely satisfied with their finished results.

Hi, I'm Bobby, I'm 24 years old! I'm new to flooring, but before I started laying floors, I was a waterproofering technician. I have two dogs and they are my best friends, Angel and Oswald. My goal at luminous is to be organized and clean at all times. You'll always find me in a good mood and keeping my coworkers spirits up.

I'm 23, I love to be outdoors and spending time with my family. I come from Bismarck, MO. Before flooring I was a Combat Engineer in the US Army National Guard. At every job I want a happy customer, who loves their floors and enjoys having us work with them.

I’m 21, I'm from St.Louis but currently live in House Springs. I enjoy hanging out with my fiancé and playing video games in my free time. I have a dog, Baby. A cat, Willow. And two rats I have rescued, their names are Bartholomew James the Third Junior, and Ne-Yo!
